Gift of the Morris Ertman Estate
Many aspiring aviators of the 1920's and 1930's learned piloting fundamentals by flying gliders like this replica of a Mead Primary Glider, built in 1979. A former Hartford Glider Club member, who in 1930 helped build and fly the original at Brainard Airport in Hartford, supervised the project. Developed from a Rhon Ranger, a European design, this basic lightweight craft could be launched from a hill or towed by an automobile to an altitude of more than 500 feet.
