Thoughts on the 58th Bomb Wing:
I am writing this on behalf of my grandfather and based on memories of my conversations with him. My grandfather seemed to enjoy his time in the Service and with the 58th. He did tell me that you had to grow up fast, but you also had to enjoy the time you had left. I know he was deeply saddened by the loss of friends, and that their memories lived on with him in his stories. He also told me that life on Tinian was fun at times and that he had the opportunity to fly other planes besides his B-29 while there.
My Grandfather passed on in 1997 after a long battle with cancer. I have spent the last few months trying to track down his military career, his plane, and crew. This site and others have provided answers to many questions that I have / had and would like to say that its great to see these men and their planes live on. I wanted to provide this information so that he may live on now with fellow crew members.
