Hump Missions Flown: 28. Set the record for hauling the most gasoline over "The Hump" to China, which helped the 468th to win the coveted "Billy Mitchell Flag."
Targets: Bangkok (aborted), Yawata, Anshan.In making the first land based raids over Japan, he became the only person in the world to make the first American raids over Europe and the first land based raids over Japan.
Awards/Decorations: Bronze Star, Air Medal with Star, Presidential Unit Citation. Many campaign ribbons and marksmanship medals.

He was honored by The Citadel as a Distinguished Alumnus. His volunteer career included board of directors and treasurer of the Village of Yesteryear, Inc.; board of advisors for the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work; president of Winston-Salem Personnel Association; president and board of directors of Family Services; served on official administrative board and missions committee for Centenary United Methodist Church; charter member of Winston-Salem Tennis Association; Winston- Salem Crafts Guild; life member of the Association of Citadel Men; founding member of Air Museum Association; and member of Centenary United Methodist Church and Mark Bible class.
