Post-WWII Military Service:

Commanded 99th Bomb Squadron until 1947. Recalled during Korean War - left as Major. Promoted to Lt. Col in 1964 as part of AFR. Requested active duty in Vietnam. Stepped down to Warrant Officer Aviator because senior grades were overstaffed. Returned to combat as a Medevac helicopter pilot. Served two tours in South Vietnam, flying 2,543 missions in the Bell UH-1 Huey while airlifting nearly 5,600 medical evacuees. On October 2, 1969, Novosel received the Medal of Honor for extracting 29 wounded men in 15 different extractions, receiving his own wounds in the process.


Mr. Novosel passed away April 2, 2006 in Enterprise, AL. He is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
