Lt. Col. MacDougall died on August 5, 1984. He was honorably retired from active duty by reason of Physical Disability, AFM35-4 on December 7, 1965.

He was discharged as ENL ERC on July 27, 1943, to honorably accept a commission in the Air Force as 2nd Lieutenant.
